Frequently Asked questions

All Spartans Give project applications are reviewed and decided on by the Spartans Give Campus Council. This cross-campus group of staff represents a diverse assortment of interests and groups across UNCG, ensuring each application receives a fair, equitable overview. It also ensures that no one area of campus is over- or under-represented in Spartans Give.

  • Any Spartans Give project or campaign must have a University-approved fund number where donations can be deposited.
  • All projects must support UNCG programs and initiatives. Funds cannot be redirected to a third party, external charity, or other non-profit organization. UNCG cannot act as a “pass-through” entity to provide funding to other charities (e.g. using Spartans Give to raise money for the Red Cross is not allowed).
  • All donations received for the project must be used for the project’s stated purpose. Individuals are strictly prohibited from keeping any portion of the funds raised as a profit or compensation. All projects must be non-profit in nature.
  • All projects must be able to identify at least 100 individuals to contact for your campaign (whether via email or cell phone). You will be asked to develop a targeted audience — you and your team members must be comfortable soliciting your target audience personally.

Several types of funding make up the revenue model of public universities. These sources include state appropriations, student tuition and fees, private gifts, grants, and corporate and foundation partnerships. Philanthropic giving is vital to the sustainability and success of state universities like UNCG.
